There's a possibility that you have created your content with the keyword 'ice cream' and the majority of people are searching for 'icecream' on the Search Engine. It could also be 'ice-cream'. So, the best way is to test your keyword with all the alternatives you can think of.

Don't Forget the Long Tail Keywords

Long tail keywords are easier to target because that's what people 'mostly' look for. Long tail keywords are actually a set of words (phrase) created around the main keyword. This means you can do a comparison search and see the results. Moreover, if you search for 'ice cream', Google Trends gives you consolidated results including all the other similar words and misspelled words. You can even filter the results by location, search history, and category.

Related Searches on Google

This is the simplest trick to see what keywords you should include in your content. Search for your keyword on Google. At the bottom of the results page, you'll find 'Searches related to <your keyword>'. This list is what people are using to search on Google. You can either research about each of them using a tool or simply try to use those phrases in your content as 'long tail keywords'.
